Jennifer Drayton worked as a medical secretary for 43 years and retired about two years ago. She has a small pension income of less than £1,000 a month and took out a Norwich Union Cash Reserve Option in February 2008.
She used the money that she released to redecorate her flat, pay off a loan and buy a new TV. “My pension is quite small and only just enough to get by,” she said.
She lives in a two-bed flat and does not want to move out of the area. “I really like the area and my friends are all here so I do not want to leave,” she said.
Ms Drayton does not have any family or children and is not concerned about leaving an inheritance.
